About

The Crighton Players

The Owen Theatre 225 Metcalf St. Conroe, TX 77301Our legal name is "The Little Theatre of Conroe, Inc." and our Dba is "The Crighton Players". We are a 501(c)3 organization and we stage our productions in the OWEN Theatre located at 225 Metcalf Street, Conroe, Texas 77301. Our theatre opened with the 2008-2009 season production of "Wait Until Dark", but we’ve been doing theatre for our community for over 40 years.  We recently moved from our former venue "The Crighton Theatre".

The Owen Theatre is a newly renovated building owned by the City of Conroe and is a "state of the Art" facility seating 250 patrons.

Community

Above all else we are about community. Our venue has the ability to seat 250 patrons. We have volunteers from our local community engaged in every aspect of what we do. We use volunteers for our actors, directors, ushers, prop crew, costume designer and crew, for set design and building and a myriad of other functions which are needed to put on a high quality production.

We will hire music directors and musicians as may be needed for our musicals.

Organization

Each year we hold an annual general membership meeting and elect (4) new members to our Board of Directors to a (3) year term. At the conclusion of their term the members must rotate off the Board for at least one year. Each year the Board elects its President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

How We Select Our Shows

Jekyll and HydeThe Board determines who shall be considered Play Directors and each year they invite those Directors to submit (3) plays of their own choosing they would feel strongly about producing. The plays are gathered and reviewed by a committee for the purpose of determining each plays availability and suitability for our audience.

The committee then makes a non-binding recommendation to the Board of Directors for the season. The Board then has the final say as to what show is placed in the season and for which time period it will be done in.

How We Produce Our Shows

Each Director holds open public auditions. "Open auditions" means each auditioner can see what other auditioners do during their auditions. "Closed Auditions" would be where the auditioner is reviewed privately. The public is welcomed to our open auditions and no experience is necessary.

Auditions are announced in the local newspaper, in our newsletter, and on our website. We have had many shows where the lead performers had no experience before auditioning for us. Of course there are always other supporting functions which need to be filled. If you are interested in becoming involved with our group please don’t hesitate to contact a director and let them know. If you are not cast or selected to work behind the scenes in a production don’t give up. Each show has different requirements and the very next show may be the one just right for you.
